About the Fuchsia flower

It was the French botanist Charles Plumier who first identified the Fuchsia flower in the late 17th century. He named it after the famed 16th century German botanist, Leonhart Fuchs.

There are more than a hundred species of this beautiful and unusual flower. The fuchsia is native to South America but has now been successfully cultivated in other parts of the world as well, such as New Zealand and Tahiti. Fuchsia is a commonly cultivated and popular flower in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian countries.

It was only in the late 18th century that the fuchsia flower arrived in Britain.
