Appearance of the Cosmos Flower
A lovely flower and stunning in its simplicity, the Cosmos flower comes in vibrant colours of red, pink, brown, orange, yellow, purple and white. Native to Mexico and South America, this beautiful and delicate bloom is a very popular flowering plant. Hence, it is also known as Mexican Aster or Chocolate Cosmos. There are 20 known species of Cosmos but two are the most commonly grown garden varieties.

About the Cosmos Flower
The name ‘cosmos’ is derived from the Greek word for ‘harmony’ or ‘ordered universe’. It were the Spanish priests who first grew the cosmos flower in their mission gardens in Mexico. The evenly-placed petals of the lovely flower created a lovely ordered look and reminded them of the Greek word for a balanced universe. Hence they named the flower ‘cosmos’.
Hummingbirds are hugely attracted to the Cosmos flower since it is one of the most fragrant flowers found in nature. And, did you know? The chocolate cosmos actually smells of chocolate!

The Cosmos flower symbolises everything that is orderly, beautiful and peaceful. Interestingly, the cosmos flower is also knows as a ‘love flower’.
